Supportive Hands
What HIM Does

  • Provides a clearinghouse for evaluating the needs of individuals and making referrals for needed assistance. Using HIM as a clearinghouse, we are able to track who receives financial assistance and prevent duplication.

  • Provides participating churches and social agencies an opportunity to help those in need address their personal, social and economic problems through a faith-based initiative.

  • Provides a framework for future collaborative efforts between churches and social agencies as new needs arise.

  • Provides volunteer opportunities for local residents who want to make a difference in Hart County.

Assistance Provided

Financial assistance:

  • rent or mortgage payments

  • utility bills

  • life-sustaining prescription medication

  • home, appliance or car repair

  • GED exam fees

  • an unexpected expense that would have an adverse effect on income

  • other services deemed necessary for daily living

  • Referrals to other agencies that can offer assistance and permanent solutions to their economic situation.

  • HIM offers budgeting classes. Our mentors meet with the client to help create a workable budget and offer suggestions on how to live within that budget.

How Does It Work?

  • Local churches, agencies and individuals refer Hart County residents in need of assistance to HIM. Those persons contact HIM directly at 706-377-4446 for a telephone screening interview, followed by a personal appointment.

  • Our trained volunteer Intake Specialist interviews the applicant and coordinates available funds and/or refers the applicant to appropriate agencies. (All information is confidential.)

  • All fund payments are made directly to the Providers. No funds are given directly to recipients.
